Intro

August 12, 2009

I’ve been in the PR and event business since Johnson was president (Lyndon, not Andrew) … clients and friends are finding that web-based events are profitable and popular, wave of the future?
I still believe there is a value in actually meeting people at an event, that events should be held locally in buildings that are in city centers (not suburban malls like facilities).
Industries, business and economies all go up and down … there is a hope that we are done going down.
Events (trade shows and conferences) are still a prime location for networking and sales. But they can’t run on air. Years ago I had a partner who said, he who advertises wins. Still true. If you don’t buy ads, market and reach out to media (what I do) you ain’t going to win. And now is not the time to cut back on marketing, but all too many trade shows and conferences are still cutting their spending, to the point of placing the event in jeopardy.
Trend seems to be to running local conferences and road shows, trade show industry (and conferences) have to follow Barnum and Bailey and take the show on the road, attendee public want the shows to come to them.
Road shows that I am working represent a trend in how we have to do business.
Always willing and ready to lend a hand to start and grow events … my other blog on Harbor Notes will focus on maritime and marine related subjects, PacificDialogue and HarbormasterInstitute continue as resources for the communications, event and maritime/coastal industry.
